Hempfield Marching Knights
The Hempfield Marching Knights (HMK) are a nationally recognized performance ensemble that inspires students to grow as musicians, performers, and leaders. HMK is a vibrant, high-energy team of over 100 students who grow and perform as a team - starting in mid-May each year with the competition season ending in November. The band is known for dynamic, engaging, and compelling field shows that connect with audiences on an emotional level.
From football fields to NFL stadiums, HMK performs throughout the year at local games, competitions, parades, and community events. With a legacy of and a culture rooted in support and inclusion, this is more than a band; it’s a place to belong, challenge yourself, and create lifelong friendships and memories.

What We Do
HMK performs throughout the year, sharing talent, teamwork, and school spirit at football games, parades, pep rallies, and competitions. Each season is a journey of growth, hard work, and lasting memories, with students finishing stronger and more confident than when they began.

Student Requirements
*Members must be a current HHS student or an invited incoming 8th-grade student who is in good standing with the band program.
*Follow band and school rules, policies, and staff instructions
*Be a great human to all. Kindness, understanding, flexibility, focus, attention, and effort are choices we constantly make. Be a connector, not a divider. Be a teammate of equality - our ability to unite determines our level of success.
*Placement on instruments and/or sections is determined by a consideration based on staff evaluations, prior experience/skills, and balance of team needs. The band director determines placement with the input from the caption head staff.

Marching band is a unique blend of movement and music, a high-energy performance activity that challenges students artistically, musically, physically, and socially. It combines precision and creativity, discipline and expression, in ways few other activities can.
But marching band is more than what you see on the field. It’s a team built on support, care, and shared goals. It’s a place where students find encouragement, build confidence, and form friendships that last a lifetime. Every rehearsal and performance pushes students to grow and improve together.
