Hempfield Marching Knights (HMK)
The Hempfield Marching Knights (HMK) are a nationally recognized performance ensemble that inspires students to grow as musicians, performers, and leaders. HMK is a vibrant, high-energy team of over 100 students who grow and perform as a team - starting in mid-May each year with the competition season ending in November. The band is known for dynamic, engaging, and compelling field shows that connect with audiences on an emotional level.
From football fields to NFL stadiums, HMK performs throughout the year at local games, competitions, parades, and community events. With a legacy of and a culture rooted in support and inclusion, this is more than a band; it’s a place to belong, challenge yourself, and create lifelong friendships and memories.
Black Knight Color Guard (BKCG)
Indoor - Varsity & JV
The Black Knight Color Guard brings grace, drama, and athletic artistry to every performance. Using flags, rifles, sabers, and dance, the guard enhances the musical production with synchronized visual impact. During the winter and spring seasons, the guard continues its journey indoors—competing as an award-winning Indoor Guard throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey, with the varsity team often participating in WGI world championships!
Hempfield Indoor Percussion Ensemble (HIPE)
Once marching season ends, percussionists take the stage indoors with the Hempfield Indoor Percussion Ensemble. Combining battery and pit instruments with theatrical performance, this competitive ensemble pushes the boundaries of rhythm, creativity, and visual expression. Open to both percussionists and interested non-percussionists, this is a tight-knit group where technique, teamwork, and innovation collide.
HHS Symphonic Band
The HHS Symphonic Band is the top-tier wind ensemble at Hempfield High School, composed of the program’s most advanced musicians. Students in this ensemble demonstrate a high level of technical skill, musicality, and commitment.
The Symphonic Band performs a wide range of challenging literature, from classic wind band repertoire to contemporary works, and regularly represents Hempfield at concerts, festivals, and adjudicated events. With a focus on precision, expression, and ensemble excellence, the Symphonic Band provides students with an enriching and inspiring musical experience.
HHS Concert Band
The HHS Concert Band is a core part of the Hempfield High School music program, welcoming all 9th grade students who play a wind or percussion instrument, as well as upperclassmen student interns who learn to double on a secondary instrument. This ensemble focuses on developing fundamental skills in tone, technique, and ensemble playing while performing a variety of concert band literature throughout the school year.
Designed to support growth for musicians of all experience levels, the Concert Band provides a positive and collaborative environment where students build confidence, strengthen their musicianship, and prepare for more advanced performance opportunities within the Hempfield Bands program.
Centerville Middle School Band (CMS)
The CMS Band is where many Hempfield musicians begin their journey. Open to all band students in grades 7 and 8 at Centerville Middle School, this ensemble focuses on building strong fundamentals in tone, technique, rhythm, and ensemble playing.
Students in the CMS Band rehearse regularly during the school day and perform in concerts and school events throughout the year. It’s a supportive, encouraging environment where young musicians grow in skill and confidence while preparing for continued success in high school ensembles.
Landisville Middle School Band (LMS)
The LMS Band welcomes all 7th and 8th grade students at Landisville Middle School who play a wind or percussion instrument. This ensemble provides students with the essential building blocks of musical development, focusing on tone production, technique, music reading, and ensemble skills.
Through regular rehearsals and performance opportunities, students gain confidence, teamwork experience, and a love for music that prepares them for future success in the high school band program. The LMS Band is a fun, supportive space where young musicians grow and thrive.
